Occurring right at the final looped fade-out of the song, the gear change in "Good Day Sunshine" seems wholly unnecessary. It's not as if it is used as a springboard for another minute of the same stuff: it's barely a few seconds before the song completely disappears. So why bother? I'd like to invent some crackpot story linking the truck driver's gear change with the "Paul is dead" theory perhaps indicating that Paul had gone up to a higher place but I don't think anyone would believe me.
